Tokoname & Bankoyaki Kyusu Clay Teapots

Tokoname clay is high in iron content and when fired, changes into a reddish orange color known as "shudei". Prior to firing, one technique which is often used in making Tokoname-yaki is the mixing of several different colors of clay. Since Tokoname clay is extremely fine, it is also very common to find kyusu (traditional Japanese style, side-handled tea pots) featuring designs which have been intricately carved by hand.
